In Esperanto, "vidanto" means 'one who sees' or 'one who is seen'. It seemed like a good name for a website about sharing a vision with you.
Esperanto was invented by Ludwik Lejzer Zamenhof in 1887, and is the world's most widely used invented language. The word 'esperanto' means 'one who hopes'. Zamenhof hoped to create an universal second language that would foster peace and understanding between diverse people. While I don't quite think we will all speak an invented language in the future, I do believe that we can foster peace and understanding through effective communication, and considerate, humane design.
I am currently in graduate school again, this time to work on my PhD (in Communication and Rhetoric) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. My research is interdisciplinary and connects cognitive science, social psychology, and education with the more general aims of the Humanities.
Specifically, I study standardized language and critical thinking proficiency assessment, and design new, technology-mediated tools for same. Recent work incorporates augmented and virtual reality agents and environments.
Enjoy the site. I hope something here will be interesting to you.
